Dom Perignon x David Lynch Launch Party

some perks of being in the west coast, and not being in the east coast, is that for my editors who can not make it to some certain events in the west coast, i'd attend in their place. for example, last week's extravagant, yet understated, and code of dress: "dark" party for a special edition Dom Perginon bottle designed by the one and only Sir David Lynch. Mission was to snap some photos on behalf of Nylon. Personal mission was to see The Kills. Missions accomplished.
p.s. I've been told I have a special talent for celeb-spotting. (See: photos.)

the Lynch is in the building!
my date, Shane West. just kidding.

what i wore:
zara scuba diver dress + 3.1 Phillip Lim bike lock necklace.

structure + florals

my afternoon at the getty. not so much perusing the galleries, but more admiring the juxtaposition of the linear architecture with its feminine lines and curves, and vast sweeping views of los angeles. i was most excited to stroll the garden (see: matching floral pants worn for the occasion), but just my luck the garden was under complete renovation. despite that, it was a gorgeous, gorgeous day at the getty and i can't wait to go back in the summer to see the new floral arrangements.

i've FALLen

it's officially fall in the city and it feels so good. chilly, drizzly mornings call for a cropped cashmere-wool mixed pullover paired with silk trousers and a piping hot skim latte from La Colombe; cloudy skies and fashion week call for chic umbrellas and comfy ankle boots; and most importantly, it's time to break out the F U R!!! -- there is nothing like fall fashion in ny!

on my agenda for the next (and my last) two weeks in Manhattan:

- FASHION'S NIGHT OUT @ 3.1 Phillip Lim in SoHo
- 3.1 S/S '12 fashion show on Wednesday
- a trip uptown to the brand new LadureƩ for my macaron fix -- ever since I had my first French macaron in Paris three years ago, no other patisserie could compare.
- spend quality time and have nights out on the town with my friends before I move back to good ol' sunny California

i am loving the resurgence of ladylike clothing. the classic suit may be aging to some, but with the right coloring (color blocking -- SO spring), i say that the right blazer/trouser pairing should be the newest (and totally upgraded) uniform for us young working girls.

gone are the days we rely on leggings and an oversized tee to express our lack-of creativity for day wear. at this day and age, and with such graspable runway looks for off-the-runway-prices (a la Zara, et al), any career girl can channel her inner Coco Chanel or Kate Hepburn or Annie Hall. personally, when i throw on a blazer and sleek pants, i tend to stand taller and mind my overall look a little more than usual. poised and polished!

someone once told me, "DRESS FOR THE PART YOU WANT."
and my dear friend Edward Wulf always lived by the mantra:"GOOD CLOTHES OPEN ALL DOORS."

TRANSLATION: DRESS TO IMPRESS.

why?

because somebody is always watching.

that little grey sweater

activewear as ready-to-wear has been very apparent the last few seasons. we've seen slouchy sweatpants replacing leggings, heels have rubber spike soles for better walking traction, striped over-the-knee tube socks are slightly sexy now (thanks to the heels-with-socks trend), and then there's my favorite – the ubiquitous grey crew neck sweatshirt.

what was considered a raggedy, warm sweater you wear to sleep has now become the go-to staple to dress down a too-fancy look. the way that it's not form-fitting, the way it slouches, the way it fits just like your man's but better, the way the grey just goes with just about everything in your closet – this understated piece has infinite possibilities.

wear it with sequins, pair it with leather shorts. pile on chunky, sparkly necklaces, while you roll up the sleeves. rock it long as a mini dress over your favorite colored stockings, or cropped with high-waisted trousers or a maxi skirt.

if i can wear my Cheap Monday crew every day, i would. ..with black liquid leggings and any one of my booties/wedges. i'm a sucker for comfortwear.

some photos just to give you some ideas:
