Features of Alpaca Fashion

The Alpaca (Vicugna pacos) is a domesticated species of South American camelid. It resembles a small llama in superficial appearance.
Alpacas are kept in herds that graze on the level heights of the Andes of  Peru at an altitude of 3500 to 5000 meters above sea-level, throughout the year. Alpacas are considerably smaller than llamas, and unlike them are not used as beasts of burden but are valued only for their fiber. Alpaca fiber is used for making knitted and woven items, much as sheep's wool is. These items include blankets, sweaters, hats, gloves, scarves, a wide variety of textiles and ponchos in South America, and sweaters, socks, coats and bedding in other parts of the world. The fiber comes in more than 52 natural colors as classified in Peru, 12 as classified in Australia and 16 as classified in the United States.
The Alpaca

Alpacas have co-existed with mankind for 5,000 years. The Incan civilization from the Andes Mountains in Peru elevated the Alpaca to an exalted position in their society. The imperial Incas clothed themselves in garments made from Alpaca and Vicuqa. Museums throughout the Americas display textiles made by Peruvian culture named "Paracas" from Alpaca, Vicuqa and original Peruvian cotton fibers.
The Spanish conquerors failed to appreciate the value of Alpaca fiber preferring the wool of the merino sheep from their native Spain. For a time Alpaca fiber was a well kept secret; however, beginning in the mid 1800's Alpaca was rediscovered by Sir Sirus Salt of Bradford, England and the the exporting of this fabric called " the other Inca gold" started and continues until the present.

The newly industrialized English textile industry was at its zenith when Sir Sirus began studying the unique properties of Alpaca fleece. He discovered that alpaca fiber was stronger than sheep wool and that it's strength did not diminish with fineness of the yarn. The Alpaca textiles he fashioned from the raw fleece were soft and lustrous and quickly made their mark across Europe. Today the center of the alpaca textile industry is Peru that has 3.5 million alpacas. Yarn and other products made from Alpaca have been marketed primarily in Japan and Europe, and with the new trade cooperation agreements with the Andean nations there is an increase on the development of markets for Alpaca garments in North America.

Today alpacas have found their way into the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, England and various parts of Europe. A shipment of alpacas was smuggled out of South America in the 1860 s but it was not until 1984 that the first serious attempt was made to import alpacas into North America. The South American alpaca population has grown to several million, the population in the rest of the world is less than 10% of this total. Compared to the number of alpacas on native Peruvian soil the number of alpacas in other countries is minimal. Some references indicate over 80 percent of the alpacas world population is located in Peru.

2011 Gents Watch Fashion Worldwide

A gents Seiko watch is a definite fashion statement for the more discerning man. This is a time piece of robust style and quality that suggests strength and power. This is very much a man's watch, a functional item for the serious wearer, but something that looks pretty good and macho at the same time. The watches are mostly in silver stainless steel, or black coated stainless steel, but always stylish and very wearable in a masculine kind of way.
The Seiko Gents Premier Kinetic Moon Phase SRX004P1 is a fairly expensive item. It features a white dial with a satin gold tone case. As its name suggests, it can tell you the moon phases. This stylish dress watch comes with a standard brown leather strap with a push button deployment clasp. It is water resistant down to 100 meters depth. This watch operates by automatic kinetic movement.
The Seiko Gents Velatura watch, model number SRH011P1, is a very modern, almost futuristic looking, watch. This gents Seiko watch sports a classic black and silver appearance. The brown leather strap with fold over clasp seems to be almost moulded around the silver case. It has an integrated look that suggests serious design work, and not just a thrown together afterthought. The black dial has luminous hands, and it piece is powered by the Seiko Kinetic Direct Drive mechanism.
The Seiko Gents Arctura Chrono watch, model number SNAD11P1, is perhaps the most futuristic looking model of all the Seiko watches. It has something of the Michelin Man in its appearance, though not in rubber, of course. It has an overall black appearance, rounded in a pleasing curvy manner with not one single feminine quality discernible. This is a man's watch, and its only practical application is the fact that it can tell the time to a very demanding precision.
If you need a watch that has knobs and button protruding, then perhaps the Seiko Gents Velatura Chrono watch, model number SNDA59P1, is the one for you. This one has chunky appeal. It rugged and robust, strong and capable. This is the watch for heavy duty tasks where a more flimsy model might not stand up. It sport a black dial with a two-tone black and silver stainless steel strap. The strong appearance of this gents Seiko watch is reflected in the fact that its waterproof capabilities can take it down through 200 meters of water before it will sustain damage as a result.

CESARE PACIOTTI Lauches A New Collection -Sole Art - Leather and Lace

Cesare Paciotti is known throughout Europe and celebrity circles for his line of stylishly sexy women shoes designed with the sophisticated, modern woman in mind – women such as Rhianna, Blake Lively and Kelly Rowland (pictured below in a shoe from the Winter 2010/2011 collection). These discerning customers know Cesare Paciotti shoes by his bold designs, sky-high heels and use of avant-grade materials.

And now, Cesare Paciotti is launching sexy new feminine collections with artfully crafted soles to the American marketplace. Cesare Paciotti was inspired to incorporate femininity into all aspects of his shoe designs to better accessorize the fashions strutting down the catwalks for 2010 and 2011. To that end, Cesare Paciotti has launched new collections that feature a new sole of leather and lace on all of its women shoes.

For Fall/Winter 2010/2011, Cesare Paciotti was inspired by 80s glamor and the sole of each shoe is made of red and black leather and lace. Opulence is back again, with classic elements, sky-high heels and some shoes in the collection are encrusted with Swarovski crystals for magical accents. Cesare Paciotti signature gold dagger is on the bottom of every shoe.

The Spring/Summer 2011 women collection can be described as a celebration of femininity. Inspired by 19th century lingerie and corsets, the collection features shoes with handmade embroidered silks paired with delicate lace. Suede and leather are incorporated into the new line in distressed finishes to appear as softer fabrics. The sole is nude and black leather and lace, with a gold dagger. Although other designers have featured some type of colored sole in the past, no designer has incorporated such an elaborate and sexy sole into an entire collection before. It is quite possible that this “sole art” is the final frontier in shoe design.
For a designer-worthy wardrobe, go straight to the source - look to catwalk inspiration, not the catwalk. As always, the key is to mix and match current fashion with your own personality. A touch of detail goes a long way, and you can conjure up a world of style in a single accessory, if you choose wisely.
Five leading trends set the tone for the season, but keep a look-out for changing details over the coming months, as they mix, sub-divide and evolve.
Go on safari with breezy colonial styles - this season's shapes are styled for city life, with pale khaki and sand tones. Classic safari pockets are streamlined, adding to the wearability factor, and making this the perfect mixer for other seasonal trends.
INTO THE DRESSING-UP BOX
Ballerina skirts, at a new, longer length, bridge the gap between the neat New Look references of last season and the Boho trends which were so dominant three years previously. High waistlines and a clean outline add to the sophisticated twist on a festival favorite. Be delightful but confident with this center-stage look.
DREAM A LITTLE DREAM OF ME
Poetic smocks, sweet button details and tiny floral prints. Vintage influences are key, with a mix of bohemian Edwardian artist and Seventies student as the leading source of inspiration. This romantic trend is great for girlie-girls - give it a harder edge with a woven, black leather belt, or team it with Indie-style boots for a truly free-spirited summer style.
SHE SELLS SEA SHELLS
Head to the shore with navy stripes, bold red and white. Imagine a New England lighthouse crossed with a Joanne Harris novel, and you're half way there. Use frayed, vintage-print scarves to draw out an easy-going vibe, or team tidily striped scoop-necks with simple black pants for effortless chic.
PEP RALLY
Be an all-star in sporty, spangled prints. Models are working the look on the catwalk and off-duty. From a single, glittering star clasped to the center of a gown for Hollywood-kitsch glamor, to bright tees covered in a spray of print, teamed with wide flare jeans, this look is self-consciously fun. Either way, this is one trend that's guaranteed to add sparkle to your wardrobe.

Arts and Craft Education - 1955 - Make a Nativity Scene

Here's a project that comes to us from a small 1955 magazine "Arts & Craft Education" With this how-to article by Geoffrey Tucker. If you click on the images twice you can print these out and create a memory.

MAKING A CHRISTMAS CRIB
This Christmas group is in the simplest form of the series " Postcard Handwork ". Even the very young will find little difficulty in making the figures stand up, the older child will find more interest in making the Baby's crib and the manger. The directions for this are on page 6.

The photograph here shows the setting made from the actual drawings on the following page, cut out and pasted on to thin card. It will be more interesting for the children to trace off these figures on to postcards so that they can enjoy the added task of colouring them, remembering that the Three Kings would certainly wear the richest possible colours while Joseph, a poor man, will be in faded dra ~colours as contrast. Mary would most certainly be in a blue mantle, the rest the childrei can imagine to their hearts' delight. If a reproduction of a painting of the scene by an Old Master can be found so much the better.

If the grouping is to be in a stage effect made from a box many more angels could be made with some (still slightly curved) suspended by cotton from the top to float, these will not need the stands attached. More shepherds could be added by tracing off the main shapes of the Kings and dressing them differently and instead of their costly gifts, carrying a staff or young lamb as offering. In fact, the older children will enjoy inventing their own characters and grouping after using the following drawings as a basic idea.

ADIEU, CARINE

after 10 fabulous years of being the editor in chief of French Vogue, CARINE ROITFELD is saying good bye to her throne as editrix and waving hello to something...new.

"It's 10 years that I'm editor of the magazine," Ms. Roitfeld, one of the most influential editors in the fashion business, said in a telephone interview with journalist Cathy Horyn. "I think it's time to do something different."

French Vogue would not have been the same without her. Roitfeld's first cover (as EIC, in which she also styled), was of Kate Moss, shot even then by Mario Testino, for the February 2001 issue. while flipping through the editorial spread, Noir & Blanc, i couldn't help but notice how ahead of her time the styling was. so minimalist and modern, this easily could have been a February 2010 shoot. this just goes to show how talented Carine really is.

"I had so much freedom to do everything I wanted. I think I did a good job." But she added, "When everything is good, maybe I think it's the time to do something else."

Leaving while still on top, and with such style, Carine will be with the magazine until January 2011 (and in magazine time, that means she'll be overseeing up until the March issue).

Whatever she decides to do, I don't doubt it'll be innovative, inspiring, and unexpected -- much like her and her style.

adieu, chérie!

Superiority of Alligator vs Crocodile Leather

Many products today are made from alligator or crocodile leather, from purses and shoes to custom leather dog collars. When trying to determine whether alligator or crocodile leather is more superior leather or more luxurious, there are many factors to consider before making a final determination. Generally, alligator leather is viewed as the nicer and more luxurious leather, with more symmetrical scale patterns and a softer hide. Alligator has a smoother and more "three-dimensional" feel than crocodile skin, and alligator hides typically command the highest prices. It is one of the most highly sought raw materials by the manufacturers of luxury items. Although extremely rare, a very few number of crocodile skins can compare with the quality of alligator hide. These would include "Nile crocodile" and Australian saltwater crocodile. When processed and tanned correctly, these very rare and expensive crocodile skins can meet or exceed the luxuriant nature of alligator skin.

Species of Reptiles There really is only one species of alligator, known as the American Alligator. In contrast, there are over a dozen species of crocodiles from all over the world. The most common is the Brown Caiman, which is found in Central and South America. Generally, caiman skin is drier and stiffer than alligator skin, and significantly less durable. Unfortunately, many items made from caiman skins are deceptively labeled as alligator products. Most species of crocodile are endangered and therefore illegal to hunt and harvest for commercial use, or at the very least their use is restricted by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). When examined closely, crocodile or caiman skin will have small pits in the scales. These pits do not exist at all in genuine alligator products.

A Comparison of the Leathers At first glance, it can be very difficult to tell crocodile from alligator leather. They are similar in a number of ways, and both will provide many years of useful service. However, the value and quality of the leather can vary greatly depending upon the tanning process used and the body section of the donor animal from which the leather is taken. The most important considerations tend to be softness, scale pattern, and finish. For the most part, alligator skin is of a far greater quality, with more symmetrical scale patterns, softer skin, and a smoother feel than crocodile skin.

Fashion Week Handbags: Hermes Spring 2011

It has often seemed as though Jean Paul Gautier favorite thing to do on the Hermes runway is riff on the classics that make the brand so iconic and successful, and Hermes Spring 2011, Gautier swan song with the brand, was a horse-static, S&M-tinged ode to exactly those tendencies. The handbags mostly stayed clear of the psycho sexual leanings of clothing, but that isn’t to say that they weren’t interesting.
If I told you that the bag to the left were actually made of real, honest-to-God crocodile, would you think I was lying? I wouldn’t blame you if you did, because I’ve never before encountered crocodile skin that I could see through, but Style.com seems to indicate that it’s the genuine article. From that to picnic basket and fanny pack Kelly and tiny Birk-ins hanging from cuff bracelets, it seems as though Gautier had a fine time with his last trip through the Hermes accessory archives.
As the name implies the shoes made from alligator skins are commonly called alligator shoes. Just as with the leather that comes from cows for most shoes alligator shoes are made from the hides of alligators and are very popular due to the natural durability of the alligator skin. The alligator is a predator animal, so wearing the skin of an alligator can be perceived as being exotic, daring and sexy. As you would suppose just from the name, men’s alligator shoes are of course, shoes that are constructed of alligator hides, which are skins taken from animals for human usage. Like crocodiles, alligators have been on the planet for many millions of years and are probably the closest living relatives to the dinosaurs. Their huge teeth and incredibly resilient and tough skins give us an indication of what the dinosaurs may have been like. This same quality is also what makes them such great shoes, they are practically indestructible and in addition to being used for shoes the hides are also used to fashion wallets and belts. Alligator skin can be used for watchbands, handbags, wallets, shoes and boots. Wearing alligator leather shoes is a sign of economic success. Many European brand names use this exotic leather such as Gucci, Channel, Prada, and Mezlan.
Another very well known maker of not only alligator skin shoes but also other exotic skins such as ostrich, crocodile, lizard and more is the Leatheroftheworld Company. They have one of the largest selections of colors and designer styles in the entire world. Of the few manufacturers of men alligator shoes here are the most recommended men alligator shoes manufacturer and some online retailer of men alligator shoes. Leatheroftheworld Company is an exotic skin shoe manufacturing company that features a diverse variety of alligator shoes, as well as crocodile, lizard, emu and other animal skin combination. Their vast selection of alligator shoes ranges from plain, conservative colors to higher fashion styles.
There are thousands of fine leather craftsmen all over the world, often specializing in tanning specific exotic animal skins with decades of experience that they pass on to future generations. When it comes to exotic footwear, many men normally prefer the alligator shoes. Men alligator sandals are also very common, especially during the hot days. Alligator loafers for men are a good fashion accessory to wear casually. There are many designs for this option. There are many things to consider when looking for the footwear that will bring out the best in you. Before you purchase any footwear, make sure that they fit comfortably. Buy the foot wear that you can afford, but make sure it is stylish and of high quality. You do not want to get some good looking sandals or boots which will wear off within a short time. Alligator Shoes is known worldwide for their large selection of top fashion footwear that are worn all over the globe. Alligator Shoes offers the best quality footwear with the latest in style and fashion. Since the economic downturn and the start of the recession, there has been a great decline in the prices of luxury items including alligator leather boots. Many people are taking advantage of the current recession and buying luxury items such as crocodile leather and alligator leather shoes. Although they feature shoes from all kinds of different skins and in a wide variety of styles their mainstay is their exotic skin department.

TIME's top 10 fashion statements of 2010

typically when i hear the phrase "fashion statement," i imagine looks like innerwear as outerwear (tastefully), color blocking with odd color combinations (yet it works), ball gowns at casual events, menswear on women, and Anna dello Russo.

yet as i was clicking through TIME's top 10 fashion statements of 2010 within their Top 10 Everything of 2010 lists, i quickly realized that TIME made a little word choice error.

i deem the following the top 10 fashion DISASTERS of 2010.
