Vintage floral

Today I wanted to create a print inspired by vintage floral wallpaper with a modern twist. I wanted the original motif to look old and worn with faded floral paintings, and then modernised by turning it into a mirrored print. I would love to one day get this printed on some silk fabric and make some light palazzo pants out of it, or even a shabby chic bed cover!

ADIEU, CARINE

after 10 fabulous years of being the editor in chief of French Vogue, CARINE ROITFELD is saying good bye to her throne as editrix and waving hello to something...new.

"It's 10 years that I'm editor of the magazine," Ms. Roitfeld, one of the most influential editors in the fashion business, said in a telephone interview with journalist Cathy Horyn. "I think it's time to do something different."

French Vogue would not have been the same without her. Roitfeld's first cover (as EIC, in which she also styled), was of Kate Moss, shot even then by Mario Testino, for the February 2001 issue. while flipping through the editorial spread, Noir & Blanc, i couldn't help but notice how ahead of her time the styling was. so minimalist and modern, this easily could have been a February 2010 shoot. this just goes to show how talented Carine really is.

"I had so much freedom to do everything I wanted. I think I did a good job." But she added, "When everything is good, maybe I think it's the time to do something else."

Leaving while still on top, and with such style, Carine will be with the magazine until January 2011 (and in magazine time, that means she'll be overseeing up until the March issue).

Whatever she decides to do, I don't doubt it'll be innovative, inspiring, and unexpected -- much like her and her style.

adieu, chérie!

SWEET NOVEMBER

My 2010 was spent traveling around the world -- england, france, spain, vietnam, and thailand -- it's no wonder why this year has flown by so quickly! So here we are, day one of November 2010 and I am soo excited about this holiday season, and especially really looking forward to 2011.

A trend for the chilly months to come?

FURRR.

no need to go over the top, no need for real fur (there's aplenty of faux options out there), and no need to channel Chanel's Big Foot costume. a furry accent here, or a foxy jacket there -- decadence in moderation is always classy.

FASHION'S NIGHT IN!

after much success with Vogue's FNO 2009 and 2010, the fashion powerhouse, Anna and the CFDA is declaring the inaugural FASHION'S NIGHT IN on November 1, 2010. instead of fabulous in-store parties, celeb-designer-editor sightings, and karaoke'ing with the Olsens at Barney's, everyone in the WORLD can party in their PJs, in front of their computers, in the comfort of their own homes to do nothing but click around and shopshopshop!

i think this is a brilliant idea. i know that this year's FNO was spread out further than just Manhatten – even Orange County's own Fashion Island did a little FNO'ing – but for the rest of the ONLINE STORES that couldn't participate, here's their chance to give us deserving discounts. this thing is going to go v i r a l

among the e-tailers already signed up for FNI include:

..and i'm sure more and more of our fave online stores will be signing up as the event approaches.
such a simple concept, but totally totally cool.

caught in a good romance

liu wen in yet another breathtaking editorial spread. but i must say, miu miu's meow print dress and burberry's sherbet skirt and trench have been featured everywhere! i think we're headed for a very girly summer.
