Street Fashion

Fashion trends change but the high street fashion look of 2012 to 2013 is noted for its chic and comfy style with a blend of innocence and sexiness all mixed to create the top era for street fashion this decade. Take a look at some examples.

We seem to hear more and more about High Street Fashion but nobody looks interested in explaining what it means. Fashion magazines, fashion blogs all seem to have a separate column or category dedicated to this phenomenon but all we see are pictures, pictures and more pictures!? So what is it?

After some research that involved looking through many magazines and seeing tons of pictures (like the one I was talking about above) I feel that I might have an idea about what high street fashion is. You surely have seen men and women, young girls and boys passing you on the street that seem to have a very strong personal style. They either combine the latest of the fashion designs or simply wear outfits that they, themselves create.

Street Fashion
Street fashion is fashion that is considered to have emerged not from studios, but from the grassroots. Street fashion is generally associated with youth culture, and is most often seen in major urban centers.[1] Japanese street fashion sustains multiple simultaneous highly diverse fashion movements at any given time. Mainstream fashion often appropriates street fashion trends as influences. Most major youth subcultures have had an associated street fashion. Examples include:
* Hippies (denim, T-shirts, long hair, flower power and psychedelic imagery, flared trousers)
* Teddy Boys (drape jackets, drainpipe trousers, crepe shoes)
* Punk fashion (ripped clothing, safety pins, bondage, provocative T-shirt slogans, Mohican hairstyle)
* Skinheads (short-cropped hair, fitted jeans, Ben Sherman button-up shirts, Fred Perry polo shirts, Harrington jackets, Dr. Martens boots)
* Gothic fashion (black clothing, heavy coats, poet shirts, big boots, makeup)
* Preppy (argyle sweaters, chinos, madras, Nantucket Reds, button down Oxford cloth shirts, and boat shoes)
* Hip hop fashion (ultra-baggy pants, ECKO, Tribal Gear, South Pole, Avirex, FUBU, Sean Jean, NIKE)
* Rasta (African-inspired clothing, rastacap, dreadlocks)
* Greaser (subculture) (Levis 501 jeans, T-shirts, leather jackets, sunglasses, Cowboy boots or motorcycle boots, hair gel)
A fashion blog can cover many things such as specific items of clothing and accessories, trends in various apparel markets (haute couture, prêt-à-porter, etc.), celebrity fashion choices and street fashion trends.[1][2] They cover fashion at all levels from the biggest names to the smallest indie designers.[2]
Many fashion blogs could also be categorised as shopping blogs, since "most of the conversation is shopping advice, liberally laced with consumer recommendations". This is very similar to the content of fashion magazines. Some retailers in the fashion industry have even started blogs of their own to promote their products.[3]
Blogs that only occasionally mention fashion are not categorised as fashion blogs, although they may be labeled by the blogger as such.[4]
